An Intensive 5-day Training Course
Agile and Design Thinking
Human-Centered Innovation, Agile Delivery and Change for the Energy Sector
CLASSROOM DATES
INTRODUCTION
Exploration and production companies face pressure to lower costs, improve safety and reliability, decarbonize operations and serve a growing set of internal and external stakeholders - all at the same time. Many of these challenges cannot be solved by applying yesterday's solutions faster. They call for a disciplined way to understand the real problem, generate better options and test them quickly before committing capital.
This EuroMaTech training course brings together three complementary disciplines. Design thinking provides a human-centered process to empathize with users, define the right problem, ideate and prototype solutions. Agile provides the iterative delivery engine - Scrum, Kanban and short feedback cycles - that turns validated ideas into results. Change management ensures that new solutions are understood, accepted and adopted by the people who must use them. Participants practice the full cycle, using hands-on facilitation techniques, on a real challenge from their own workplace.
TRAINING OBJECTIVES
By the end of this Agile and Design Thinking training course, participants will be able to:
- Explain the principles of design thinking, Lean and agile, and how they combine into one innovation cycle
- Use empathy interviews, empathy maps, personas and journey maps to understand internal and external users
- Frame problems precisely using root-cause tools, point-of-view statements and How Might We questions
- Facilitate workshops that engage end users and stakeholders in generating and prioritizing solutions
- Build and test prototypes and minimum viable products to learn quickly at low cost
- Run agile delivery with Scrum and Kanban, and plan the work over the short and long term
- Lead the change that new solutions require, overcome resistance and use user-centered communication to drive adoption
WHO SHOULD ATTEND?
This Agile and Design Thinking training course is suitable for a wide range of professionals, but will greatly benefit:
- Managers and team leaders responsible for improvement, innovation or change
- Engineers, project and operations professionals seeking new ways to solve problems
- Members of digital, innovation, continuous-improvement and transformation teams
- Product owners, Scrum masters and project managers moving to agile delivery
- HSE, HR and support function professionals redesigning internal services
TRAINING METHODOLOGY
This EuroMaTech training uses a variety of proven adult learning techniques to ensure engagement, comprehension, and practical application. Each day combines expert-led facilitation with structured group discussions, case studies, paired and small-group exercises, and reflective practice. Participants will engage in real-world scenario work and leave each day with a concrete action checkpoint. The training course concludes with individual action planning to ensure every participant has specific, committed next steps for their workplace.
TRAINING SUMMARY
Participants follow the design thinking cycle over the first three days - empathize, define, ideate, prototype and test - then turn their solution into results with agile delivery on Day 4, and plan its adoption through change management and user-centered communication on Day 5. A workplace challenge chosen on Day 1 runs through the whole training course.
This is a general Agile and Design Thinking training course; it does not lead to a third-party certification such as the KMI Certified Knowledge Specialist (CKS).
TRAINING OUTLINE
