INTRODUCTION

Compared with other forms of transport, pipelines allow a more continuous, stable, and high-capacity supply of hydrocarbons to reach end-users. Pipeline transportation has the advantages of being well established, efficient, cost-effective, and readily expandable.

The products carried in liquid pipelines include a wide range of materials. Process fluid systems gather production from onshore and offshore fields, while transmission lines transport them to terminals, interconnection points, and refineries.

Materials selection plays an important role in piping systems. It is crucial to select a piping material that can cope with a variety of applications and damage mechanisms including corrosion, high/low temperatures, constant and cyclic loads, etc. Pipe inspection also plays an important role, making sure that optimal materials requirements are adhered to.

This EuroMaTech training course will combine the various disciplines of pipeline engineering, including design, structural integrity, hydraulic considerations, materials types and selection, inspection and maintenance as well as the applications of relevant codes such as ASME B31.3 and API 570.

This Piping Material Selection & Rating Classification training course will highlight:

  • Main aspects of pipeline design and manufacturing considerations
  • Knowledge of the governing principles, related to materials testing
  • Relevant structural integrity, pipe failure and corrosion principles
  • Main Types of pipeline materials and selection
  • Relevant pipe inspection and maintenance techniques

TRAINING OBJECTIVES

At the end of the Piping Material Selection course, the participants will:

  • Develop deep understanding & amp; familiarity basic principles of pipeline design for various industrial applications.
  • Be familiar with the practical aspects of structural integrity, related to pipeline operation
  • Have a knowledge of the various types structural and corrosion failure in relation to process pipes
  • Have the necessary knowledge about pipeline materials and selection
  • Understand aspects of pipe inspection and maintenance practices

WHO SHOULD ATTEND?

This Piping Material Selection training course is tailored for professionals involved in the design, engineering, or operation of pipeline systems, including:

  • Process Engineers
  • Chemical Engineers
  • Mechanical and Structural Engineers
  • Operational and Maintenance Personnel
  • Project Engineers and Consultants Responsible for New Installations or Plant Modifications

Professionals engaged in material evaluation, inspection, and integrity management will also find this course highly beneficial

Training methodology

TRAINING METHODOLOGY

The piping material selection course employs a practical, knowledge-sharing format using structured presentations and real-world engineering examples. Key learning points are reinforced through:

  • Formal lectures with technical illustrations
  • Interactive exercises and design-based case studies
  • Computer simulations and video demonstrations
  • Group discussions for shared industrial insights

Participants will receive electronic copies of course materials, including simulation files and video content, allowing for continued learning beyond the classroom. The methodology ensures technical principles are clearly explained and applied to daily engineering challenges.

TRAINING SUMMARY

The Piping Material Selection & Rating Classification training course equips participants with the knowledge needed to make informed decisions in selecting and evaluating materials for oil and gas piping systems.

Upon completion, participants will:

  • Understand material behavior under mechanical, thermal, and chemical stresses
  • Select metals such as carbon steels, stainless steels, titanium, and alloys for varied applications
  • Identify heat treatment and strengthening processes suited to engineering requirements
  • Evaluate non-metallic materials including polymers for use in coatings and liners
  • Apply corrosion control methods through proper material selection
  • Recognize and mitigate common degradation mechanisms such as fracture, fatigue, and elevated temperatures
  • Gain familiarity with Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) techniques for pipeline inspection

This course provides professionals with the technical foundation to ensure safety, reliability, and efficiency in piping systems through proper material selection and classification.
