INTRODUCTION
Electromagnetic transients in transformer and rotating machine windings have a major impact on all aspects of high voltage equipment in electrical power systems. Abnormal transient voltages and currents must be carefully considered in winding insulation design, circuit switching and lightning protection, in order to improve network reliability. An in-depth understanding of winding electromagnetic transients is also useful in diagnosis and location of incipient faults in transformers and rotating machines. Investigation of transformer and rotating machine winding transients has advanced significantly during the last few decades. Many new techniques and analysis methods, which have significantly improved the performance and reliability of transformers and rotating machines, have been developed and will be presented in the programme.
TRAINING OBJECTIVES
- Develop participants’ knowledge and skills in advanced theories and applications for the electromagnetic transients associated with transformers and rotating machines
- With case studies, provide practical guidelines for the measurement and analysis of transformer winding frequency characteristics, entry impedance and ferroresonance phenomenon. Demonstrate advanced techniques and applications of winding transients
- Provide a forum for discussion on matters relevant to electromagnetic transients in transformer and rotating machine windings
