The global community has been challenged in 2020 by a global crisis that few expected and that most were completely unready for. When Covid-19 appeared back in January it seemed to be just another piece of news about strange events in a remote location. Now, five months later, with infections still increasing exponentially in many countries, more than 400,000 people are dead from the coronavirus pandemic. We can only guess at what the final tally will be. A global health crisis for which we were not prepared has stalled our transport systems, broken our supply chains and fractured our economies. It is becoming an economic crisis that may dwarf the Global Financial Crisis of 2008/9.
The long-term effects of the Covid-19 pandemic are still not yet fully understood. But what is clear is that we urgently need to learn how to manage this crisis – and perhaps any crisis. The pandemic will not be the last crisis that is faced by our countries, our companies or our families. How can we keep our operations running and maintain business continuity during the current crisis? How can we recover, once the peak of the crisis is past? And what can we learn, to prepare and plan for the next crisis – which could be the second wave of Covid-19?
This EuroMaTech Online conference will explore the many dimensions of Crisis Management and help to prepare attendees for the days and weeks ahead.
This EuroMaTech Online Conference will highlight key topics on Crisis Management within the following disciplines , presented by leading industry experts as detailed below:
Crisis Management in Projects - Led by Key note speaker, Dr. Amr Oloufa
The rapid change in operational spheres over the last few months have been nothing short of profound as the virus has impacted almost every aspect of our economy. The pressing question is how do we cope and how do we mitigate its impacts? This is where the field of Project Management comes in. Project managers, due to the very nature of projects, must adapt and expect and manage risk, deal with uncertainties and communicate with their stakeholders. This presentation will present some strategies to deal with the unique challenges the world if facing.
Managing Contracts after the 2020 covid-19 crisis - Led by Key note speaker, Bill Blakemore
Covid-19 has become as much a commercial crisis as a public health emergency, with many contractors suffering from broken supply chains, poor cashflow or legal impediments to performing their contractual obligations. In an unstable world, and with oil prices at reduced levels, dependable strategic contractors are now struggling to deliver the materials, services or works that their customers require and that they have committed to supply.
So how should contract owners adjust to a volatile commercial life after Covid-19? This online conference session takes a clear look at the role of contract management in the new, post-Covid world. Join colleagues from across the world in considering the role of contract management in the weeks and months ahead.
Crisis Management in Supply Chain - Led by Key note speaker, Dr. Paul Wright
The current global pandemic has had a large impact on global supply chains. But it is far from the only event that has disrupted our global supply chains in the past few decades. We should anticipate that in future there may be other events that will also cause disruption. What they are, we find difficult to say - and if we could fully anticipate them we might be able to prevent them occurring in the first place.
So, we have deal with the current crisis, and plan for the next at the same time. This means we need to have a clear view of our existing supply chains, and to develop plans to balance the risks of Lean supply chains with the costs of Resilient supply chains. This presentation is about how we start to consider this balance, and points to the way to some of our EuroMaTech courses that can help you plan in greater detail.
Emotional Intelligence - How to stay calm in the middle of a crisis - Led by Key note speaker, Jillian Sawers
That we are living in extraordinarily challenging and stressful times is obvious. But why some of us find it so much more stressful than others is not always so obvious. Whether we are in a crisis or not, understanding the subtle art of identifying what triggers our emotions and why, can make the difference between sailing our boat through the storms to safety, or getting lost in the waves or even sinking.
This brief introduction to the topic of Emotional Intelligence will explore the role ego plays in our emotional reactions, and how to recognise the subtle but important difference between emotions and feelings, as well how to calm down and centre yourself when you are losing your cool.
Leadership in Crisis Management - Led by Key note speaker, Rodger Pyrah
Crisis management is the process by which an organization deals with a disruptive and unexpected event that threatens to harm the organization or its stakeholders. The study of crisis management originated with large-scale industrial and environmental disasters in the 1980s. It is considered the most important process in public relations.
In contrast to risk management, which involves assessing potential threats and finding the best ways to avoid those threats, crisis management involves dealing with threats –
This Leadership in Crisis Management EuroMaTech online conference will consider current examples on how Crisis Management has been tackled and the lessons that are being learned.
