INTRODUCTION

After many years of discussion, the International Standards Organisation (ISO) has finally produced the first international global standard for risk management - the ISO 31000:2009 Risk Management: Principles and Guidelines on Implementation.

This new standard brings together a globally accepted strategy and framework on risk management. All forms of risk, such as financial, security, safety, health and environment, are included in this new risk management standard. It also sets out a new risk management framework, including the following activities:

  1. Mandate of commitment for risk management
  2. Communication and consultation
  3. Establishing the risk context
  4. Risk assessment, where risk is identified, analysed and evaluated
  5. Risk treatment
  6. Monitoring and review

The standard also describes five levels of excellence criteria and associated measures in developing, implementing and monitoring the risk management framework.

This training session is aimed at providing delegates with the knowledge and skills to develop and successfully implement an effective risk management programme, in accordance with the new ISO 31000:2009 international risk management framework.
